In 2003, New Cardiovascular Horizons was honored to present the third annual Achievement Award to Martin B. Leon, MD. In a remarkable confluence of vision, leadership and creativity, Dr. Marty Leon has literally changed the way we practice cardiovascular care and how we discover, share and use information about cardiac and vascular disease. As a living icon of a new breed of interventions cardiologists, he has had a worldwide impact, helping to unite the once-disparate worlds of American, European and Asian Cardiovascular medicine.
Founder, President and CEO of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), Dr. Leon has successfully interfaced clinical medicine, research and cardiovascular education with the market-oriented world. Through TCT, of which Dr. Leon is founder, director and driving force, all major device, technology, clinical trials and CV advancements are introduced or reported. It was the first truly international conference and the first venue bringing together cardiologists and surgeons. From the TCT to the EuroPCR and CCT, from PTCA to DES, from the CRF to the FDA, from Angiogenesis to ISR, from the cath lab to Wall Street, from PCI to PHV therapy, from clinical trials to medical simulation, from intervention to surgery to industry, from the podium to the bedside, Dr. Leon has changed and will continue to mold the face of cardiovascular care.
