In 2002, New Cardiovascular Horizons was honored to present the second annual Achievement Award to Dr. Edward B. Diethrich. As Founder, Medical Director and Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Arizona Heart Institute, Dr. Diethrich has for more than three decades been a the leading edge of cardiovascular innovation.
Going Beyond theoretical and clinical research, taking leading edge technology directly to the patient, and sometimes bucking the medical establishment, Dr. Diethrich has changed the face of cardiovascular care, pioneered the endovascular specialty, and spawned a generation of "cardiovascular and endovascular specialists."
His list of professional achievements is extraordinary in its length and breadth. From the first OP cath lab to the first live TV CABG broadcast to "off-pumps," from AAA to endovascular stent grafts to carotid stenting, from cardiac transplantation to TMR/PMR to myoblast cell regeneration and gene therapy research, from the surgical knife to lasers, stents, and back to lasers, Dr. Dietrich has changed the face of cardiovascular care.
